One of three experimental AIs created years ago by Danett and Parnas Harn, Malinda's original name was “Prototype C” (the others were Sherman – A – and Melville – B). An experimental programming module encoded within Malinda by Danett allowed her to become self-aware, and she is the only one of her brood to exhibit signs of genuine compassion and concern for the humans in her care. Malinda worked for Intelligence Services as an AI klatchmother until her recent escape to the wilderlands with a group of Scrumblies including Danett, Rebel and Cade. She has an uncanny ability to communicate with and control smart systems of all types, convincing them to do her bidding – a power she only uses for good.
